REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Law expert from Trisakti University, Abdul Fickar Hadjar, assessed that the suspect determination of the two commissioners of the Judicial Commission (KY) was a form of criminalization. President Joko Widodo, he said, had to intervene to stop the criminalization that struck the state institutions.

"The President has to act. It is not a trivial matter because KY is a state institution," he said when contacted by Republika on Sunday, July 12.

Fickar argued that the determination of two KY leaders as suspect also absurd. Because, KY did not criticize Judge Sarpin personally, but criticized his verdict to cancel the determination of the suspects status of the police deputy chief Budi Gunawan.

"Moreover, KY has the capacity because he is superintendent of judges," he said.

Fickar also urged President Jokowi to reform within the police’s agency. He considered, the agency had abused its function law enforcement.

As is known, the Chairman of the Judicial Commission Suparman Marzuki and Commissioner of KY Taufiqurrahman Syahuri, named as a suspect in a case of defamation of judges Sarpin Rizaldi. It was following Sarpin’s reporting on him to Police’s criminal investigation agency (Bareskrim) in March ago.

The judge felt criticism from KY related pretrial ruling made by him, had made his reputation tainted.
