Judicial Commission says Indonesian democracy heading to capital owner

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Chairman of the Judicial Commission Aidul Fitriciada Azhari said Indonesian democratic system were not heading to strenghten the people sovereingnty. He saw it was heading toward the capital owner. 

"It was done through the esthablishment of legal infrastructure and policy that provides opportunity to the operation of the power of capital through a democratic system that is open and competitive," he said at Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta University, on Saturday.

Aidul said basically there was no problem with the system. However, problems could arose if the election as part of democratic system was only profitable for the elite politician who wanted to rent-seeking.  "Electoral democration has create relation in political life, just like free market in economic life," he said.

Furthermore, Aidul said politicians nowdays were coming from the background of businessmen and figures who have access to the capital owners. He would not be surprised to see many policies were beneficial for capital owner.  

Aidul reiterated legal approach has become an important element in achieving a better Indoensia.
