Minister Amran claims food production not decline in the dry season of 2015

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman claimed that the country did not lose food production in the dry season of 2015. Because, he has done a number of early anticipation measures to save the dry land.

Among them it provided 4,180 pump units. The provision pump coupled with the formation of a team from Public Works and Housing Ministry, Research and Development Agency of Agriculture Ministry and the Public Company Jasatirta.

"There are 179 715 hectares of the dryness regions accumulation on average five years in Indonesia, while, there are 28 864 hectares of damaged land area," said Amran on Wednesday, July 8. So, he ensured the rice supply was sufficient to several months.

Furthermore, Procurement Director of Bulog Public Company said, the absorption of farmers rice by Bulog as much as 1.6 million tons until today. After Eid, he said, the harvest will take place in South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, East Java and West Java.

"We’re going to optimize it in August-September, today we could absorb 20 thousand tons of grain, it’s safe," he said.

The existing rice supply on Bulog’s hand will be sufficient up to six months. Although admittedly the dryness will have an impact on production, Wahyu was optimistic the absorption process of Bulog will not be hampered. C37
