REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has disbursed humanitarian funds worth Rp6 billion for the Mount Sinabung eruption refugees in Karo district, North Sumatra, according to National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.

"The funds to meet the basic needs of the refugees have been handed over by BNPB Chief Syamsul Maarif to the Karo district head," Sutopo stated here on Tuesday.

According to the spokesman, Syamsul submitted the funds while overseeing the condition of the refugees before attending a coordination meeting with the officials of the North Sumatra provincial government recently.

At the time, the BNPB chief noted that the government did not remain silent to the condition of the refugees and the communities residing around the erupting Mount Sinabung.

He remarked that since the eruption in September 2013 until June 2015, the BNPB has granted Rp141.2 billion in funds to the Karo district government and the victims of the volcanic eruption.
