REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- President Joko Widodo is scheduled to harvest vanamei shrimp on September 19, which coincides with the final event of Sail Tomini, in Parigi district, Central Sulawesi, a regional official said.

"The president is slated to conduct the first partial harvest of the vanamei shrimp that was cultured using Indonesian supra-intensive technology in Kampal village, Parigi sub-district, some 80 kilometers east of Palu city," Hasanuddin Atjo, the head of the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office of Palu, said here on Tuesday.

The Indonesian supra-intensive vanamei shrimp culture was launched by Chairman of the Indonesian Aquaculture Community (MAI) Rokhin Dahuri in 2013.

The shrimp culture was launched in the ponds of CV Dewi Windu, Baru district, Central Sulawesi, where the technology was designed and tested for several years.

Atjo stated that several officials had inspected the location of the pond where the president would harvest the shrimp.

The pond is being constructed, and the shrimp fries are expected to be released before the end of this month (June). Therefore, the shrimp can be harvested by September.
