REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo has asked all ministries and state institutions to submit progress reports on their performance in the past six months (November 2014 to April 2015).

"I ask all ministries and state institutions to report (to me) their achievements in the past six months, i.e. from November 2014 to April 2015," the president, who is popularly known as Jokowi, said while chairing a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office here on Monday (15/6).

He added that the reports were expected to be submitted within the next two days.

Jokowi also asked ministries and state institutions to submit their work plans for the coming six months, i.e. for the May to October period.

"Their work plans should be submitted in detail but should not more than two pages," he explained.

In addition, the head of state asked for reports on follow-ups of a limited cabinet meeting on the use of domestic products that ministries, state institutions and state-owned enterprises (BUMN) were to ensure.

"I also ask ministries, state institutions and BUMNs, in particular, to make a list of goods needed at home as a strategy to reduce imports," Jokowi stated.

If there are goods that need to be imported, they should be studied again to find whether they could be replaced with domestically produced products, he noted.

"If they (domestic products) are found, the minister of industry should identify solutions for where the goods can be produced," he remarked.

Citing an example, Jokowi pointed out pipeline network projects for which items continue to be imported despite there being a pipe factory in Batam that manufactures good quality products in abundance.

"Batam already manufactures good quality pipes and has considerable production capacity. However, only 40 percent of its capacity is used because ministries, state institutions and BUMNs continue to import," the president observed.

Jokowi urged for such practices to be stopped so Indonesia's trade balance and domestic production could be improved.
