Muhammadiyah and NU urged to talk about international Islamic education

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The idea of Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the opening of the Ulema astral conjunction of  Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to open international Islamic educational institutions positively appreciated by Islamic organizations.

"The idea to create an international Islamic institution is the stage in which the contribution of Indonesian Islam’s thought we will develop it and will be spread it to the whole world,"said Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Council (PBNU) KH Slamet Effendy Yusuf, on Thursday, June 11.

Then, he revealed the need for consolidation of Islamic organizations in Indonesia, particularly Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama.

Responding to the realization of this idea, Slamet reminded of the potential of two major organizations in Indonesia, namely Muhammadiyah and NU. Both large organizations have been equally develop universal, equal, and tolerant theme in education, without departing from the core teachings of Islam.

“Government together with Islamic organizations has to sit together to plan this. The government has to encourage, and then gather the scholars from various organizations to think together and execute it later,” he said.

This international Islamic education institution should bring together all modes of thought of Indonesia’s Islam that brought rahmatan lil 'alamin mission.

According to him, this is what differentiates the international Islamic educational institutions with special universities founded by Muhammadiyah, NU, as well as other organizations.

"So, this must be a gathering place for intellectuals and scholars who concentrated on the model of advancing Islam and globalize Indonesia’s Islam," said Slamet.
