REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The 2015 Makassar International Writers' Festival (MIWF) will be based on the theme of "Karaeng Pattingalloang: Knowledge and the Universe," MIWF Director and Founder Lily Yulianti Farid said.
"The MIWF will attempt to revive love for knowledge and passion for finding different answers to a variety of phenomena in the universe by promoting Karaeng Pattingalloang's ideology," Farid stated here on Monday.
Pattingalloang was an intellectual figure and a prime minister of the Gowa Tallo Kingdom in the 17th century.
"Pattingalloang was an intellectual with a good vision and a complete library. He also mastered seven languages," Farid added.
The 2015 MIWF will be held from June 3 to 6. The event will be attended by 60 authors and performers from 20 countries who will participate in discussions, workshops, readings, and art showcases.
This year, the MIWF will be focused on Fort Rotterdam and several universities in Makassar, such as the University of Hasanuddin and the State Islamic University (UIN) Alauddin. The event will not charge visitors.
Some Indonesian writers who will attend the 2015 MIWF are Seno Gumira Ajidarma, Leila S. Chudori, Oka Rusmini, Aan Mansyur, and Trinity, among others.
