Saudi Arabia and N Sumatra join hand to develop Islamic education

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- The Saudi government is willing to provide assistance to Islamic boarding schools in North Sumatra to help develop Islamic education in the province, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia Mustafa Ibrahim Al Mubarak said.

The ambassador stated here on Thursday that the Saudi government intended for long to provide assistance for the development of Islamic boarding schools and mosques in North Sumatra.

He added that the aim of this aid was to help boost the development of Islamic education in Indonesia so the country can become a reference for others on Islamic education.

"The Saudi government has wanted to meet with the governor of North Sumatra for a long time to express its intention of assisting in the development of Islamic education and mosques in the province," he pointed out while meeting with Governor of North Sumatra Gatot Pujo Nugroho.

He further noted that as North Sumatra is a strategic province in Indonesia, it would be good if it serves as a reference for Islamic education.

"Saudi Arabia is ready to provide assistance to North Sumatra to develop education," he reiterated.
