REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- State-owned telecommunication company PT Telkom said it will provide Broadband Port infrastructure at 18 seaports in Indonesia this year to support the government's program in the maritime sector. PT Telkom will invest 90 billion IDR in the project, Djati Widagdo, an executive of the country's largest telecommunication company, said here on Friday, March 6.

The 18 seaports that will have the facility include Banda Aceh, Pangkal Pinang, Kuala Tanjung, Dumai, Panjang, Padang, Cilacap, Banjarmasin, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Lombok, Bitung, Ambon, Halmahera, Jayapura and Merauke.

The plan is in line with the company's commitment to contribute to development of the maritime sector in Maritime Logistic, Maritime Fishery, and Maritime Defense, Djati said.

"For the program of Maritime Logistic, we will prepare broadband infrastructure and ICT service for port area as a foundation toward modern digital ports," he said.

In 2014, he said, application of Broadband Ports was carried out through procurement of infrastructure of optical fiber, WiFi access, and strengthening Telkomsel signals in six ports including Belawan, Batam, Tanjung Priok, Tanjung Perak, Makassar, and Sorong. "Especially for Maritime Logistic, we have offered Telkom Digital Seaport Solution for ports and logistics community," Djati said.

He said Telkom Digital Seaport Solution constitutes a realization of the role of the company to provide ICT solution for ports and logistics. The purpose of the program is to provide connections with an effective broadband connectivity, and automatizing business process in ports and logistics with applications needed and integration of all port and logistics communities with an integrated information system, he said.

He said he was optimistic the program could be implemented successfully especially with the support from Telkom Group, PT TelkomAkses, PT TelkomSigma, PT Patrakom, PT ILCA, Probis Maritim and Logistics (Miles), and the Division of Enterprise Service and the regional divisions as the delivery channels. "We are confident the support will help the government in its 'sea toll road' program to reduce logistics cost," he said.
