Governor Inaugurates Gorontalo fair

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- Gorontalo Governor Rusli Habibie inaugurated the Gorontalo Fair at the Taruna Remaja Square here on Thursday to mark the 14th anniversary of Gorontalo province.

During his opening speech, Governor Habibie stated that the fair was held annually to promote the development of small- and medium-enterprises and to mark the anniversary of the formation of the province.

The Gorontalo province, with its mountainous panoramas that offer scenic views, was established in December 2000 after it seceded from North Sulawesi province.

The governor marked the opening of the fair by hitting the Gorontalo traditional musical instrument of Polopalo made of bamboo material.

"Gorontalo Fair that will run until February 16, 2015, can provide an opportunity to local small- and medium-scale businesses to promote their products," the governor noted.

Rusli affirmed that the local government has made significant achievements, and therefore, he expressed hope that the fair could encourage an economic turnaround and help to attract investment for the region.

In addition to the exhibitions and bazaar, the Gorontalo Fair is also offering its visitors entertainment, an art competition, Karawo clothing fashion show, dance and hip-hop in Gorontalo languange, as well as drawing and coloring competitions.
