REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- The number of tourists visiting East Nusa Tenggara province has increased since the Komodo Travel Mart held in September 2013.

Only 46,608 foreign tourists visited East Nusa Tenggara in 2012, but the number increased to 80,810 tourists in 2013, Head of the NTT Economic Creative and Tourism Office Alexander Sena stated, here, Thursday.

"It proves that our travel agents are professional in marketing our tourism attractions," he noted.

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has not yet released the number of tourists who visited NTT in 2014, but it is estimated at over 100 thousand tourists.

He believes that intensifying tourism promotion activities, both domestically and internationally, can significantly increase the number of tourists visiting the province.

"We have the Komodo dragon, tri-colored Kelimutu Lake, Pasola, traditional kampongs in Sumba, and Ngada, Alor, Riung, and Labuan Bajo diving spots that will offer comfort to the tourists," he remarked.

He urged the district authorities in the province to improve their tourism attractions and promote tourism to attract more tourists to their regions.

Earnings from tourism could improve the economy of the local people, he added.
