REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BIAK -- National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will soon make a documentary film on various tourist attractions in Biak Numfor district, West Papua, according to Garuda General Manager for Biak area Wayan Supatrayasa.
"The shooting of the documentary film on Biak Numfor district's tourism destinations will begin on January 30, 2015, at Padaido and Aimando islands," Wayan said here on Thursday (29/1).
He noted that the filming of Biak tourism is part of the Garuda Indonesia management's efforts to promote tourist attractions across the country.
Wayan explained that Garuda has already carried out similar tourism promotional activities in Tanah Toraja in South Sulawesi, Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi, Kota Waringin in Central Kalimantan, Morotain in North Maluku, and Wamena in Papua.
Garuda Indonesia's Biak area general manager remarked that after the documentary film on Biak tourism is completed, it will be screened on every Garuda flight monitor for both domestic and international passengers to see.
He expressed hope that through the film, Biak Numfor's tourist attractions will become better known and attract many more tourists to the district.
"The management of Garuda Indonesia has a commitment to promote tourism in every region, as more and more tourist visits to Biak will boost the aviation sector and help Frans Kaiseiepo airport here," Wayan noted.
In the meantime, Biak Numfor district government official Frengky Korwa has welcomed Garuda Indonesia's initiative to make the documentary film on local tourism.
"We hope that Garuda's promotional efforts through the documentary film will help increase the number of domestic as well as foreign tourist visits to Biak," Frengky added.
