REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia rose 7.29 percent to 8.52 million in the first 11 months of 2014 from 7.94 million in the same period in 2013.
In November alone the number of foreign visitors fell to 764,460 from 808,770 in October, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.
"The decline in November could have been caused by the change in the government as normally the number rose in November," head of the BPS Suryamin said here on Friday (2/1).
In November in 2013, the number foreign tourists rose sharply to around 800,000 from around 600,000, he cited.
The decline in November was recorded in the arrivals at the Sam Ratulangi airport of North Sulawesi, Lombok International airport in West Nusa Tenggara and Adi Sumarmo airport of Central Java.
Increase in the number of arrivals was recorded at Tanjung Priok port of Jakarta and Bali.
Meanwhile the occupancy rate of star-rated hotels averaged 54.45 percent in November in 2014, down 1.57 percentage points from 56.02 percent the same month in 2013.
If compared with in the previous month, the occupancy rate in November rose 0.16 percentage point.
