REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BARABAI -- Floods have affected Hulu Sungai District over the last few days and have damaged tens of hectares of rice fields in Central Benawa village, Batu Benawa sub-district.
The farmers had lately sowed the paddy seeds, and now, the seeds were damaged due to flooding, Hidayatullah, the Central Benawa village head, stated here on Wednesday.
"Agricultural areas have been submerged in waters up to a meter deep," he noted.
The flood victims are hopeful that the government will provide paddy seeds for the next planting.
In the meantime, floods also inundated 677.5 hectares of rice fields in several sub-districts of Langkat District, North Sumatra Province.
Incessant rains over the past few days have flooded rice fields in sub-districts such as Secanggang, Gebang, Hinai, Babalan, Sei Lepan, Tanjungpura, and Padang Tualang sub-districts in Langkat district.
"Some 677.5 hectares of rice fields have been affected by flooding," Miswandi, a local official, stated here on Monday.
Of the 677.5 hectares, 222 hectares are located in Secanggang, 146 hectares in Gebang, and 12 hectares in Hinai.
Floodwaters have inundated 95 hectares of rice fields in Padang Tualang, 10 hectares in Tanjungpura, and 15 hectares in Sei Lepan.
