Foreign tourist visits to Indonesia increase 2.21 percent

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced that the number of foreign tourist visits in October 2014 reached 808.8 thousand, an increase of 2.21 percent compared with the previous month.

Of the total tourist visits, 51.92 percent arrive mainly through Adi Sucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta, 24.46 percent arrive through Tanjung Priok Seaport in Jakarta, and 22.07 percent arrive via Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport, Riau, the Head of BPS, Suryamin, said on Monday.

He explained that compared to October 2013, which saw the influx of 719.9 thousand tourists, the number of tourist visits had increased by 12.34 percent. The number of tourist visits via Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, in October 2014 increased by 27.30 percent compared with the same period last year.

According to Suryamin, Singaporeans dominated the tourist numbers at 15.31 percent; Malaysians were at 13.79 percent; Australians, 12.40 percent; Chinese, 11.77 percent; and the Japanese, 5.50 percent.

Cumulatively, the number of foreigners visiting from January to October 2014 has reached 7.76 million, an increase of 8.71 percent compared with the same period last year, which recorded 7.13 million visits.
