Mayor of London visits Jakarta, plans to cycle with President Jokowi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, visits Jakarta for two days, November 29-30. During the two day visit he will meet Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama on Saturday and cycle with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo during the Car Free Day on Sunday.

According to written statement received by Republika, the visit is aimed at boosting trade and swapping best practice between London and Jakarta in sectors key to both cities’ development such as infrastructure, technology, e-commerce and financial services. It is part of the Mayor’s three city Far East tour which also includes Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. 

“It is vital to continue to bang the drum loudly for London’s status as a world class destination for business, jobs and innovation. The truly dynamic cities of Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are delivering exciting infrastructure and regeneration at a fast pace and are the perfect partners for London to share knowledge and expertise across many important sectors. By strengthening ties here in Jakarta we secure long standing relationships that will form the basis of an abundance of opportunities for Londoners and people from Indonesia to work together on future possibilities," he said. 

Boris Johnson was first elected Mayor of London in 2008, and was re-elected in 2012. The Mayor lives in North London. A passionate cyclist, he enjoys painting and playing tennis.
