REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The capital city of Indonesia is not only rich with old buildings, but also sharia tourism destinations. The attraction is ranging from hotels, culinary and historical mosques.
"Jakarta has many Islamic heritages that can be used as sharia tourism destinations," the Head of Research and Education Department at Jakarta Islamic Center (JIC) Rakhmad Zailani Kiki said on Tuesday, November 25.
Sharia tourism destinations in Jakarta are currently focused only on hotels and culinary. In fact, the city has more to offer beyond that. It offers a number of mosques, holy books, and other heritages.
Kiki took Al Alam Mosque as an example. Located in Marunda, the mosque has a history on how Islam entered Jakarta. The city also has Al Makmur Mosque in Tana Abang and Al Mansyur Moqsue in Jembatan Lima which is aged more than a hundred.
He emphasized that sharia tourism destination was not related only to pilgrimage, in which people visit ulamas' grave and pray. Pilgrimage must be defined as tracing back ulamas' struggle to disseminate Islam in the city.
