REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that number of foreign tourists during Jan-Sept 2014 in Indonesia reached 6.95 million people, an increase of 8.31 percent compared to 6.41 million tourists in 2013. Majority of foreign tourists came from Singapore.
In Sept 2014, total of foreign tourists in Indonesia reached 791,000 people compared to 826,000 tourists in August. Singapore accounted for 120,000 tourists, followed by Australia (110,000 tourists), Malaysia (104,000 tourists), China (88,000 tourists) and Japan (45,000 tourists) as the big five.
Head of BPS, Suryamin said that the decline in number of foreign tourists from August to September was due to seasonal factor. There was no a long holiday in September 2014.
"The number will increase towards the end of the year. Tourists arrivals to Indonesia cumulatively increased during Jan-Sept 2014," Suryamin said recently.
In next five years, the new government led by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla targets more than 20 million foreign tourists in the country compared to 9.5 million tourists in 2014.
