REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Deputy of Financial Control in Upstream Oil and Gas regulatory special task force (SKK Migas), Wibowo Suseno Wirjawan asked Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Jusuf Kalla through the new government to speed up the energy sector development. It aims to remove Indonesian label as 'the net importer of energy' in next five years.

"It needs a strong political of new government to make a breakthrough that Indonesian energy resources can be used optimally," Wirjawan said on Wednesday.

According to Wirjawan, main challenge in oil and gas sector is the decline of oil production and gas exploration in the last ten years. Another challenge is a number of regulations, which are reducing efforts to increase investment and production of oil and gas. Energy sector development can be started from making the pricing policy over the use of energy.

"Increasing the price of subsidized fuel oil in certain price is a necessity to reduce fuel consumption and subsidy. Increasing the electricity tariff will control power consumption to overcome crisis," Wirjawan added.

The second step is designing and implementing an integrated public transport system. Third, the revitalization program through conversion fuel to CNG and renewable energy, such as biodiesel and bioethanol.

Fourth, creating a procurement system and energy distribution to reduce mafia practises and increasing the efficiency costs and budget savings. Fifth, making the planning targets.
