REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Pertamina is still investigating the cause of the fire that engulfed the fuel storage tanks in the Balongan Refinery area, Monday (29/3). While waiting for the results of the investigation, Pertamina is restoring the burned areas.

Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati said the cause of the fire at the Balongan oil refinery was not yet known. Until now, Pertamina is still investigating with the authorities.

"Our focus today is to resolve emergencies in the field," said Nicke Widyawati in a press conference, Monday (29/3).

Nicke explained that the Pertamina team continued to recover from the effects of the fire. Apart from involving local security forces, Pertamina also deployed a team to recover from the impact of the fire.

Currently, the fire at Pertamina's Balongan refinery is still burning, however, the fire has been localized so that it does not spread to other oil and gas facilities. Pertamina extinguishes the fire using foam so that the fire does not spread to other parts.

Pertamina is cooling all areas of the Balongan refinery so that the fire does not spread to other areas. "There are 10 fire engines that we operate from Pertamina and Pemda Cirebon Indramayu," said Nicke.

Head of West Java Regional Police (Kapolda) Inspector General Ahmad Dofiri said there were reports of indications of leaks in the burning oil tank pipe at the RU VI Balongan oil refinery, Indramayu Regency.

"We got the information earlier that there was a seepage or leak in the burning tank pipe," said Dofiri in Indramayu, Monday (29/3).

The leak, according to him, allegedly triggered the burning of the oil tank at the RU VI Balongan oil refinery.

Pertamina Balongan oil refinery, Indramayu Regency, West Java, on Monday (29/3) at dawn, exploded and caught fire. The flames were seen soaring and were monitored from a distance. The sky in the Indramayu region turned bright red.
