Economic ministries targets 600 million USD at international furniture fair

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs has targeted a transaction valued at 600 million USD at the International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (IFFINA), according to Deputy Minister of Commerce and Enterprise Affairs, Edy Putra Irawady.

"We believe that the transaction could be achieved, as the Indonesian furniture has various artistic touch, so they have a large market share," he said on Wednesday.

He explained that IFFINA, to be held in Jakarta, March14-17, 2015, would promote and market various Indonesian furniture to 4,500 buyers from 100 countries.

"Buyers, businesses, as well as small and medium entrepreneurs, will meet and do business at the international exhibition," Edy said, adding that the IFFINA 2015 is expected to be the largest exhibition in the Southeast Asia region.

According to him, the furniture or the furniture industries have made significant contribution to the achievement of Indonesia's economic growth by 5.8 percent in 2015.

"Manufacture of furniture and handicraft is one of the top ten priority reliable exports that spur the economic growth in Indonesia," Edy noted.

In 2013, the furniture industry, which employs four million people, had contributed 1.779 billion USD to the national foreign exchange from exports. The ministry is optimistic that with the commitment of the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industry Association (Asmindo), a greater economic growth will be achieved along with the increasing value and volume of imports of Indonesian furniture products to various countries.
