REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Bahlil Lahadalia and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of energy and mineral resources. The signing of the MoU took place at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, and was witnessed directly by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after a bilateral meeting between the two leaders.

“The MoU between the two countries will open up opportunities for technology transfer and innovation in the energy sector, which will accelerate the development of clean energy in Indonesia. With the support and collaboration of international partners, we can pursue energy self-sufficiency in accordance with the direction of Mr. President Prabowo,” Bahlil said, in an official statement from the Ministry of ESDM, quoted Thursday (13/2/2025).

He explained that cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey includes power generation, electricity distribution and transmission, development of New Renewable Energy (EBT), hydrocarbon development, as well as new technologies including hydrogen, nuclear, and batteries. “This cooperation will be valid for five years and could be extended by an additional five years by agreement between the two countries,” Bahlil said.

Indonesia has cooperated with Turkish companies in energy, particularly oil and gas (oil and gas) as well as geothermal. Through PT Pertamina (Persero), eight collaborations have been established with several Turkish companies in geothermal and shipping projects.

Turkey is also investing in geothermal projects through PT Hitay Daya Energi (HDE) in Gunung Talang Bukit Kili with a 20 MW development plan. Later Hitay Energy Holding ran four geothermal survey and exploration projects. To date, PT HDE has invested 6.01 million US dollars, or about 22 percent of their exploration commitments.
