Presidential election process implemented smoothly

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The implementation of the presidential election process in 2014 was smooth and without disturbances, National Police Chief General Sutarman claimed.

"The presidential election process until the court verdict on the election dispute was smooth, thanks to several technical and strategic security measures," General Sutarman stated in a consolidation row call on post-security measures concerning the election dispute here on Tuesday.

Addressing 3,380 police and military personnel, he pointed out that security officers still have a task to secure the inauguration of the newly elected legislators at the local and national levels.

"And later, the inauguration of the president and vice president on October 20, 2014," Sutarman remarked.

Among those present during the event were Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti and Head of the National Police's Crime and Investigation Inspector General Suhardi Alius.

Indonesia held its presidential election on July 9, 2014. The General Elections Commission (KPU) announced in Jakarta on July 22, 2014, that Jokowi and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla, won 70,997,833 votes or 53.15 percent of the total 133,574,277 valid votes, while their rivals, Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa, secured 62,576,444 votes or 46.85 percent.

Prabowo rejected the election results, claiming that the election was marred by massive cheating and fraud. He challenged the results of the presidential election announced by the KPU.
