BI withdraws 195.16 billion IDR of unfit money

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- Bank Indonesia (BI) withdraws 195.16 billion IDR of unfit money that must not be circulated during second quarter of 2014. Head of BI Representative Office in North Sulawesi, Luctor Tapiheru said that the value increased 3.93 percent from 187.78 billion IDR to 195.16 billion IDR.

"Many people folded or damaged the money then put it into their bags. Many merchants let the money to get dirty with fish blood for example," Tapiheru said in Manado recently.

Many people have not been treated properly about Rupiah. According to BI's Assistant Director in North Sulawesi, Eko Siswantoro, the unfit money cannot be distributed based on quality standards set by BI, such as shabby money, misprinted money, or damaged money.

The size of shabby money has changed from its original due to fire, oil, chemicals, graffiti. Misprinted money was caused the failure of printing process. Damaged money was caused  fire, perforated, or missing part. Central Bank in North Sulawesi keeps socializing how to treat Rupiah properly.

People need to know the money printing process, which are very expensive. Indonesia has to import raw materials from abroad with high price.
