REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State oil and gas company PT Pertamina's Chief Executive Officer Karen Agustiawan was said to have succeeded in expanding the company abroad, its former commissioner Maizar Rahman said.

"Karen had made a lot of achievements in expanding Pertamina abroad," Rahman noted on Monday in response to the resignation tendered by the former as Pertamina's CEO.

Earlier, State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan confirmed that Karen had resigned from her position at Pertamina to teach at Harvard University and to take care of her family.

"We have received the letter of resignation from the Pertamina president director and accepted her request to resign from her position," State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan remarked on Monday.

The minister stated that Pertamina shareholders were unable to retain Karen Agustiawan as the president director of the state oil and gas company because she wanted to teach at Harvard University.

"Harvard University has repeatedly asked Karen to teach there, and this time, she has made up her mind to resign from Pertamina for her new post," Dahlan explained.

He said that Karen had worked with Pertamina for six years and was able to tackle numerous problems that the company had encountered, in addition to making it one of the world's leading companies. When asked whether Karen's resignation had something to do with a plan to raise fuel oil prices, Dahlan denied it.

"No, her resignation is purely because she wants to teach at Harvard University and to take care of her family," the state enterprises minister stated.
