REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- Dozens of obese policemen and policewomen of Semarang Police Office are undergoing mandatory exercise to lower their body weight.

Chief of Semarang Police Office Senior Commissioner Djihartono said here on Wednesday that the exercise was also aimed at maintaining the body shape and the appearance of the police personnel.

The police personnel who are overweight gather at the front yard of the office at noon for a five-kilometer jogging routine at the trimming program.

"The program is also conducted to maintain their agility. If they are fat, they will not be nimble," Djihartono pointed out.

Police officers who are considered to be overweight should join the program scheduled twice a week.

One of the "fat" policemen, Aiptu Makmun, remarked that the program was useful as he had aimed at reducing 15 kilograms.

"It is alright if the exercise makes me tired, because I rarely do exercise," he added.
