REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- North Sulawesi has exported 15 tons of nutmeg to Vietnam to meet order from that country, a provincial official said.
The exports recently were valued at US$212,450, head of the provincial industry and trade office Olvie Atteng said here on Saturday.
The exports indicated that nutmeg has become a significant export earner for North Sulawesi, Olvie said.
"Nutmeg from North Sulawesi is growing in demand in Vietnam and a number of other countries as spices product," he said.
Exports have also been made to African countries, he added.
The local farmers should take advantage of the growing value of nutmeg in international market by boosting product ion and improving quality, he said.
Nutmeg grows well in the regency of the islands of Sitaro, Sangihe, and Talaud.
He promised that the government would facilitate exports of nutmeg such as by simplifying export procedure.
