REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WEST LOMBOK -- State owned electricity company, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to build new power plant in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara to solve the problem of power shortage in the region. Head of Regional Development Planning Board (Bappeda) in West Lombok, H Baehaqi said that PLN had presented the plan development to the regent a few days ago.
"The location is around the steam power plant at Keranjang, Kebon Ayu village, Gerung district," Baehaqi said on Sunday.
The power plant capacity reached 2x33 mega watts (MW) to 58 MW. The addition of new power plant is expected to meet the demand for electrical needs in all regions in Lombok.
According to Baehaqi, PLN will conduct an evaluation about PLN plan, ranging from special planning, environmental impact analysis and other studies. The electrification ratio target in West Nusa Tenggara was hampered due to power deficit up to 20 MW.
PLN Manager in Mataram, Bagus Hari Abrianto explained that the target of electrification ratio in 2014 reached 68 percent. Company has able to reach 64 percent until second quarter of the year. The remaining target is quite difficult to be achieved due to power shortage.
