REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President of Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Anis Matta said supporters of both presidential candidates must reconcile at a national level after the presidential election, whatever the results of the election will be.

"We are all matured people who practice democracy. Whatever the result of the election is, we must reunite as a nation," said Anis after casting his vote at a polling booth near his residence in East Jakarta.

The PKS chairman expressed hope that the political competition between the supporters of both presidential candidates will not ruin the nation's unity. He admitted that the political competition in the 2014 presidential election was quite tight. However, Anis called on all parties to honor the results of the election.

"We must be ready to win or lose. It is part of being mature in democracy," Anis added.

Indonesia is holding presidential elections on July 9, 2014.

The election is contested by the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa pair and the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla duo.

According to the General Elections Commission (KPU), a total of 190,307,134 voters have been registered (including 2,038,711 overseas voters), with 486,866 polling stations across the archipelago.
