REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- North Sulawesi recorded a 23.66 percent increase in export value in May compared with the previous months, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.

Head of the distribution statistics of the regional office of BPS Albert Nicolaas said here on Friday that the province exported commodities valued at US$118.62 million in May up from US$95.92 million in April.

North Sulawesi's exports were all non oil and gas commodities, Albert said.

Vegetable fat and oil are the main export commodities from the province contributing US$86.58 million or 82.65 percent to its total export earning.

China is the main export destination for North Sulawesi accounting for 24.18 percent of the province's exports in June 2014.

Parts or US$57.50 million worth of its exports were made via Jakarta and East Java in May.

Head of the provincial industry and trade office Olvie Atteng said the government will continue to facilitate exports.

The government will seek access to new market for North Sulawesi commodities, he added.
