REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Presidential candidate No. 1, Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Hatta Rajasa plans to develop Islamic banking to provide banking services for people, especially Muslims in Indonesia. Prabowo's campaign team member, Saifullah Tamliha said that Muslim investors could not be underestimated as they invested in all sectors, such as energy and mining sector.

"They should be accommodated," Tamliha said on Wednesday.

They wanted to invest in Indonesia as the existence of Islamic banking in the country, which was recognized worldwide. Tamliha saw that Islamic banking grew very good in Indonesia, started from Bank Muamalat establishment in the New Order, also conventional banks in form of sharia business unit (UUS).

Islamic banking in Indonesia is still likely to be developed to increase better service. According to deputy secretary general of United Development Party (PPP), the existence of Islamic banking is crucial to attract foreign investors. They need a usuary or interest-free banking to meet Islamic principle.

"It can be found in Islamic banking," Tamliha added.

Investors from Middle East countries are certainly happy to invest in Indonesia. Tamliha said that Prabowo would invite more foreign investors to this country. They can invest by using existing banking facilities.
