REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto felt honored when he received a report from his election success team that some 300 academicians in Makassar support him in the presidential election.

"Pak Prabowo, God willing, he will be the country's president, we would like to report to you that some 300 academicians have signed a petition expressing their support for you to be the next president," Chairman of the success team of the Prabowo-Hatta duo La Tinro La Tunrung said here on Tuesday.

Prabowo was on a visit to Makassar for campaigning on Tuesday.

"I thank you, gentlemen, for gathering here. And I am moved by your support. Hopefully, we will become a part of efforts to save the nation," Prabowo, the founder and patron of the Great Indonesian Movement (Gerindra), said.

He gave a speech before his supporters for 30 minutes at the Andi Mattalatta stadium in the capital city of South Sulawesi province.

After staying for three hours in Makassar, he went to other cities to continue his campaigning for the presidential election.

Indonesia will hold a presidential election on July 9, 2014, which will be contested by two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla.
