Akil Mochtar denies two bribery accusations

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Former Constitutional Court chief justice, Akil Mochtar denied two bribery from local election in Gunung Mas. He was accused of pocketing three billion IDR from Hambit Bintih, the regent who won the local election.

"In case of local election in Gunung Mas, I did not take the money. When I was arrested, I was not at the location, I was at home," Mochtar said in Special Corruption for Court Crimes in Jakarta on Monday.

Former Golkar Party politician also denied that he requested the money to Chairun Nisa (a member of parliament who brokered the bribery) via short message service (SMS). 

The court charges Mochtar in rigging nine election disputes and money laundering, which carry maximum sentence of 20 years. Mochtar also denied the accusation of taking bribery worth 1 trillion IDR from Tubagus Chaeri Wardhana, brother of Ratu Atut, who was reelected as governor of Banten then.
