BI to strengthen inflation control

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bank Indonesia (BI) will strengthen inflation control to achieve government's target of 4.5 percent this year. According to BI's governor, Agus Martowardojo, though the inflation rate in April 2014 was recorded at 7.2 percent, but government is optimistic to achieve 4.5 percent by the end of the year.

"We will strengthen the inflation control through our regional representative offices," Martowardojo said on Wednesday.

Regional representative offices will provide data, information and recommendations to local government. BI can also support the stability of commodity prices.

BI will gradually reduce the inflation rate at 4 percent in 2015-2017 and 3.5 percent in 2018. It requires a strong commitment from local government, also the availability of data and information as a basic to explore cooperation among regions.

There are four strategic steps to control inflation, namely goods supply, affordable price, smooth distribution and communication.
