REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Agriculture, Suswono asked industrial players and local government to help rubber farmers to get a decent price. The rubber price will be difficult to rise if only rely on the international market.

"We will be difficult to be the price maker if only relies on international market price," Suswono said recently as reported by Meiliani Fauziah.

Suswono, from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) also asked farmers not to reduce their production, while local government should find various markets for farmers. Government has to address this issue in each respective territory when the price falls.

Many agricultural commodities are marketed by local government using regional budget. In 2013, Indonesian rubber price stood at 5 USD per kilograms (kg) and once slumped to 2.4 USD per kg. The current price reached 8-9 thousand IDR per kg, but had dropped to 5 thousand IDR per kg.
