REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- The Tanjung Emas Customs at Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang, Central Java, on Thursday, foiled an attempt to smuggle 11,480 ecstasy pills by an Air Asia passenger arriving on flight AK 328 from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

According to Acting Head of Central Java-DIY Costom Office Parjiya, the pills, worth around Rp3.4 billion (around US$300,000), were confiscated from a 38-year-old Indonesian national with the initials, OAI, at the Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang.

While screening through the X-ray machine, the airport authorities found the ecstasy pills concealed within four spotlights or torches, which were packed in a cardboard box.

"The Jakarta's Type A Item Identification and Examination Office has confirmed that the pills were ecstasy," Parjiya stated.

OAI is suspected to be a drug courier. The case was handed over to the Central Java Police Office for further investigation.

The suspect violated the Law No. 35/2009 article 113 on narcotics.
