REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MERAK - Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in West Java confiscated 592 birds at Merak port, Banten, after the owner failed to show legal document.

"The birds was recorded in Appendix category as protected birds," an official at BKSDA, Uday said recently.

The birds consisted of Cucak Jawa (Pycnonotus zeylanicus, 308), Perkutut Jawa (Geopelia striata, 184), Jalak Kebo (Acridotheres fuscus, 28), Kutilang (Pycnonotus aurigaster, 41), Manyar (Ploceus manyar, 12) and Tekukur (Streptopelia chinensis, 19). All of them would be delivered to Jakarta.

"We ask the owner to complete his legal documents, so we know the birds' legal status," Uday added.

Without any legal documents, those birds will be released into their habitat in the next three days. BKSD keep monitor all ports in Java to prevent rare animal trafficking from Sumatra to various regions in Java.
