REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO - Religious institutions had important role in financial inclusion in Indonesia, Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Agus Martowardojo said.
He said, religious institutions could act as a liaison between customers and financial institutions when financial institutions opening credit access to community groups.
"Loan guarantee and credit risk are big obstacles when financial institutions deal with religious community ," he said during his visit in Manado on Tuesday.
In Manado, South Sulawesi for example, religious institutions act as catalyst for business credits. As a result, the ratio of non-performing loan (NPL) for creditors assisted by religious institutions stood at zero percent.
