REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON -- The European Parliament has ratified the Partnership Comprehensive Agreement (PCA) signed by the European Union and Indonesia in 2009, Indonesian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxemburg and EU Arif Havas Oegroseno stated.

The governments of Indonesia and all EU members had ratified the agreement earlier, with Greece being the last country to do so on February 20 this year, he explained in a statement to an Antara correspondent based in London on Tuesday.

The PCA served as a basis for the creation of a comprehensive, in-depth and detailed cooperation and partnership between Indonesia and EU, he elaborated.

The ratification of PCA allows both sides to expand cooperation in the areas of politics, security, counter-terrorism, economy, trade, investment, education, culture and other strategic issues of mutual concern, he stated.

With the ratification of the agreement, relations between the two sides have also evolved into strategic partnership in which they have agreed to create a strategic dialog forum during EU high representative Baroness Ashton's visit to Indonesia some time ago, he pointed out.

The ambassador added that the agreement served as a document, which legally binds both sides.

In the legal document of the agreement, EU, both members and all institutions including the European Commission and the European Parliament, reiterated the 28-nation bloc's support for the sovereignty and integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.
