REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A three year old Komodo dragon and Bawean deer were found dead at Surabaya Zoo on Saturday. Public Relation Staff of Surabaya Zoo, Agus Supangkat explained that the deer died around 09.00 am, while Komodo dragon died an hour later
"The deer was dead in quarantine process, while the Komodo died in its cage," Supangkat said on Saturday.
Veterinary Medicine Faculty of Airlangga University and Surabaya Zoo team soon carried out autopsies. They found the Komodo's death was due to gastrointestinal disorders, while Bawean deer suffered from broken legs.
After having a broken leg, the deer was brought to quarantine cage. It has been amputated and died in the cage.
There are 57 collections of Komodo dragon and 19 Bawean deers at Surabaya Zoo. The zoo has reported these cases to local Police Office who then will investigate the cases. The zoo has drawn controversy because of some deaths of its animals due to lacking of maintenance from its management.
