Moderate quake hits Selayar Islands

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDARLAMPUNG -- An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit the waters of South Sulawesi province on Thursday morning, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The epicenter of the quake which stuck at 07.52 western Indonesia time was located 126 km southwest of the province's Selayar Islands at a depth of 604 km.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 is considered moderate and capable of causing considerable damage.
