REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU - A wild Sumatran elephant relocated from rokan Hulu, dead at Elephant Conservation Centre in Minas, Riau at 07:35 pm on Wednesday. Chief of Elephant Conservation Centre, Azwar Habidina explained that Riau Natural Resource Conservation Center (BBKSDA) relocated the elephant from rokan Hulu and arrived in Minas on Sunday.

"We have did our best. However, her pulse and breath are no longer there when we checked," Habidina said on Thursday.

The female elephant was estimated 20 year old. BBKSDA has carried out an autopsy shortly after she died.

Autopsy resulted that the elephant was ever seriously ill as obesity. It is aggravated by evacuation after being using anesthetic drug. Her organ performance definitely slowed down. In normal condition, the effect of animal anesthetic usually can only last for 15 hours.

Head of Riau BBKSDA, Kemal Amas said that the evacuation was requested by Rokan Hulu regent. Rokan Hulu has one of elephant habitats, but the forest has damaged by oil palm plantations.
