REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PANGKAL PINANG - German investors are interested to develop rubber plantation in Bangka Belitung. They assessed that rubber was one of commodities promising to be developed in this province.

"In the near future, German delegations will survey the location for rubber plantation in Bangka regency and West Bangka," Head of Regional Investment Coordinating Board in Bangka Belitung, Noviar said recently.

German investors are also interested to build rubber processing plant to produce semi processed and processed products. This cooperation is expected to improve rubber quality as well as reduce unemployment rates because the project is potentially to absorb workforce.

Belitung has the potential to turn some large areas of vacant land to become productive land. The region also shows high productivity in terms of rubber production.

Rubber production from plantation managed by local farmers from six regencies and one city in Bangka Belitung reaches 93 thousand tonnes per year. Those potential areas are Bangka regency, West Bangka, Central Bangka, South Bangka, Belitung, East Belitung and Pangkal Pinang.

This investment will also increase rubber prices in local market, so it is expected to boost productivity of local farmers.
