REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Explosion sounds were heard at Senior High School (SMAN) 72 Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, Friday (7/11/2025) around 12:00pm. The school is located at Jalan Prihatin Nummer 87, RT008/RW02, Kelurahan Kelapa Gading Barat, Kecamatan Kelapa Gading.

SMAN 72 is inside the TNI AL Kodamar Kelapa Gading Complex. The blast is thought to have taken place while Friday Prayer activities were underway.

It is reported that an unknown person with suspicious movements entered the mosque before the explosion. The blast came from inside the mosque which was in the school grounds.

Eight people were reportedly injured partly students of SMAN 72 Jakarta when an explosion was heard while khatib was giving a lecture.

The Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed the explosion. However, he could not yet confirm the source of the explosion.

"Yes, there was an explosion. There is information that two victims were taken to the hospital. The source of the explosion is still being investigated," he said when confirmed.

He said that the police are currently searching the crime scene. The investigation is also being carried out by the Bomb Squad (Gegana).

"It's still being investigated, they're conducting a search with the Bomb Squad (Gegana). There are special SOPs. We don't yet know the origin of the explosion," he said.

He explained that the incident occurred near SMAN 72 Jakarta. However, he admitted he didn't yet know the exact time. "(The scene) is at the high school, there's a mosque nearby," he said.
