International hotel group to build 17 new hotels in Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The largest international hotel group in Asia Pacific, Accor will open at least 17 hotels in Indonesia next year. The group targets to build 100 hotels in Indonesia up to 2015.

"Indonesia continues to be an important market for Accor in Asia Pacific region. Hotel chain development in Indonesia will be bigger than now in future," CEO of Accor, Sebastien Bazin said in written statement recently.

In 2014, Accor plans to open hotels throughout Indonesia, including in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Makassar, Tangerang, Bandung and Semarang. A dynamic development strategy in Indonesia shows that the company can open up to 130 thousand rooms with two third are in developing countries.

Chief Operating Officer of Accor in Asia Pacific, Michael Issenberg  said that Accor was one of pioneers in hospitality sector in Indonesia, which started operating since 20 years ago. Accor opened its first office in Jakarta in 1993 and launched its two hotels, Ibis in Kemayoran and Slipi, West Jakarta.

Accor Indonesia managed to acquire five hotels, namely The Royal Surakarta Heritage in Solo, MGallery Amarterra Villas Nusa Dua in Bali, Grand Angkasa in Medan, Tateli Beach Resort in Manado and The Hills in Bukittinggi. Number of hotels that have been operating has increased from 15 hotels with 2,710 rooms in 2000 to 73 hotels with 14,366 rooms in 2013.

Accor Indonesia operates nine hotel brands, namely Sofitel, Pullman MGallery, Gran Mercure, Maha Cipta, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis Styles, Ibis Budget and Ibis.
