Two straws nest in stomach of Sumatran tiger

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- Two straws are nesting in stomach of Euro, a Sumatran tiger taken from a villa in Bogor regency recently. The two straws have length of seven to 10 cm.

"X-ray result shows that two straws are still in stomach of Euro, one in his colon and one more in his stomach," a veterinarian, Andita Septiandini said recently.

Septiandini is a wildlife specialist from Animal Sanctuary Trust Indonesia (ASTI). She now takes care Euro in a rehabilitation center in Megamendung, Bogor. Euro firstly rescued and evacuated by Natural Resources Conservation Center's (BKSDA) West Java from villa 90 at Gunung Geulis village, Bogor regency.

This villa became murder location of a housemaid on Thursday, October 24, 2013. Officers also found a Liger, a hybrid cross between a male lion (Panthera leo) and a tigress (Panthera tigris).

The two straws are estimated to have been long enough in Euro's stomach judged from its condition. The straws has hardened and mixed with enzym in his digestive tract. If these straws are not removed, ASTI will take step a surgery to remove it.

The Sumatran tiger also suffered Feline Calici virus, a respiratory tract infections. This virus is usually transmitted from domestic cats.
