REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PERTH -- The governments of Indonesia and Australia are studying plans to increase cooperation in the field of agriculture to benefit both countries.

"We have plans for cooperation that would benefit both Indonesian and Australian farmers," Dewi Fortuna Anwar, the Deputy Secretary for Political Affairs to Vice President Boediono, said here on Monday following a meeting between Vice President Boediono and Western Australia's premier Colin Barnett.

She noted that Vice President Boediono and Colin Barnett had discussed agricultural products being cultivated in Western Australia.

During the talks, Indonesia was highlighted as one of the potential markets for agricultural products from Western Australia.

At the meeting, she stated, Vice President Boediono said Indonesia had opened up opportunities for potential long-term cooperation that would benefit both countries.

Dewi claimed Australia would have the opportunity to invest in the agricultural and animal husbandry sector, especially in Indonesia's eastern regions.

Vice President Boediono and his entourage, including his wife Mrs Herawati Boediono, Education Minister Mohammad Nuh, Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly Hajriyanto Thohari, and Administrative Reform Minister Azwar Abubakar, arrived here on Sunday evening for a state visit that will last until Nov. 16 and will include a meeting with Prime Minister Tony Abbot.

Dewi pointed out that Boediono had also received invitations to speak at three major universities in Australia.

She added that Boediono's visit was intended to highlight the economy, the education sector, and government affairs.

Vice President Boediono is scheduled to visit Perth, Canberra, and Melbourne during his trip.
