REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Chairman of Commission II of House of Representatives, Abdul Hakam Naja said that social media had important role to attract young voters. He explained it when he was asked about idea to socialize general election through social media to attract young voters in Indonesia.
"Social media can help to hook the attention of young voters" Naja said on Saturday.
Naja added that General Elections Commission (KPU) had to innovate to make things more creative to attract young voters. Both of young voter and the first voter deserve special attention as these groups have large numbers. This time, there is a tendency that young voters and first voters will not vote in general election. They need proper socialization to improve democratic spirit of group.
In governor election or head region election for example, number of young voters continue to decline up to 50 percent. It becomes a worrying situation. In 2014 general election, numbers of the first voters reach 20 million people, while young voters reach 70 million people. Younger voters are those who are under 30 year old.
Naja said that social media was very close to the youth. He hopes that socialization through social media would give benefits for nation and encourage democracy for youth generation.
