Indonesian students wins Best Rookie Team in Japan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -  Sapu Angin Speed (SAS), a team of Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) from Surabaya, East Java won Best Rookie Award in Student Formula Japan (SFJ) Competition 2013. This event was held on September 3-7, 2013 in Shizuoka, Japan.

"It was a remarkable achievement for us. It was the first time that ITS participate then win, despite two leading universities in Indonesia had joined this competition previously," Chairman of Mechanical Engineering Department in ITS, Bambang Pramujati said recently.

ITS becomes the first university in Indonesia which successfully bring home a title from Japan. Participants from ITS successfully coped with challenges in the competition.  

General Manager of SAS Team, Arif Aulia Rahman said that competition was held by Society of Automotive Engineers followed by 77 participants from five countries, namely Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia and India. There were two universities from Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and ITS. Previously, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) also followed this event. 

SJF Competition 2013 is a contest to design car's speed, manufacturing process, also concept of marketing. The car's body uses carbon fiber and it has weight of 225 kilograms with power of 100 horse power (hp).

"Thanks God, we give the best result," Rahman said.
